COVID-19 has become a "stimulus" that force all countries around the world to find creative solutions in a short time. Technology companies that can grasp this opportunity can grow significantly after the pandemic is over.

The rise of online teaching

The COVID-19 pandemic is spreading fast not only in Asia but also in Europe, the Middle East and the USA. Many countries have taken quick and decisive actions to reduce the pandemic's growth.

By 13th March, the OECD has estimated that 421 million children are affected by school closedown orders as published in 39 countries. Millions of student have to change to temporarily"study at home", especially in a few worst-hit countries such as China, South Korea, Italy and Iran.

These changes have caused inconvenience, but they also open up new methods to innovate education. Students in Hong Kong started study from home in February via interactive apps. In China, 120 million Chinese have access to studying materials via live broadcasting programmes. To help curb the spread of the virus, Vietnamese students have temporarily stop studying in schools since the Lunar New Year. At the moment, the study of pupils and students are carried on via online platforms.

According to Ken Research, the online education market in Vietnam has grown with a CAGR speed of up to two digits between 2013 and 2018. And it is forecasted that with the increase in Internet users over the latest years, and Internet penetration has grown 8.0% from 2017 to 2019, the growth in online education services will reach 23.4% between 2019 and 2023.

Vietnamese Government has also implemented inventions to promote the Internet of Things (IoT), big data, 4G LTE, 5G and Artificial Intelligence. With the lightning growth of 4G and maybe 5G in the future, the total number of smartphone users also surges. This is a push to the infrastructure of online education in Vietnam.

Along with the providers of online education contents, platforms such as ViettelStudy, Topica, Hocmai, Academy, Pro Seeds, etc. also develop fast with diverse and useful content, accompanied by supports from 4.0 video conference platforms such as Zoom and Google Hangouts.
